Hi Louisa - I use hiking poles - they help my balance when walking on roughish terrain. They are a bit harder on hands then the crutches with elbow support, but I prefer them to a walking stick as they have a wrist strap.
What sort of mobility issue do you have at the moment? Is it walking short distances or longer? Do you need to carry things? When you use sticks you have to think about handbags, as they can get in the way. If I'm using my poles then I carry a satchel style handbag which hangs across from the opposite shoulder - rather than a shoulder bag or something that has to be held in my hand.
